Fray Jorge National Park & Valle de Encanto

A foggy rainforest amidst the desert and an “enchanted valley”? That is quite unusual indeed. Located south of La Serena (about 115 km) the National Park Fray Jorge impresses due to its uniqueness. The forest excites with vegetation only to be found 1000 km south ever since and is unlike anything else: a true wonder within a semi-desert dry climate.
Not only interesting but also fascinating to watch: it draws its water supply only from the morning mist arising from over the ocean, the so-called “Camanchaca”.

Close to the forest, the “Valle del Encanto” offers a contrasting experience to this natural spectacle. Relive the history of our region and admire the petroglyphs made by the ancient natives.
